Famous people from Chester

From Chester to Stardom

Many Notable Figures Who Called Chester Home

This was a really interesting project to do and I found myself amazed on finding that there are so many famous people with a connection to Chester. Lets start off with a favourite of mine...

Daniel Craig

Bond with a Chester Legacy

Born: 2 March 1968 Age: 55 years (as of 2023)

Before gracing the big screen as the iconic James Bond, Daniel Craig was just a boy from Chester.

Craig's youth in the city was filled with dreams bigger than the encompassing Roman Walls.

Educated at the Hilbre High School in nearby West Kirby, he often visited Chester for its culture and arts. An avid fan of theatre from a young age, Craig often cites his visits to the Chester Mystery Plays as foundational to his passion for acting.

Outside of acting, Craig is deeply interested in environmental causes and is an active supporter of several charitable initiatives.

Estimated net worth of $130 million (really?)

Russ Abbott

Russ Abbot

Chester's Gift to Comedy

Born: 16 September 1947 Age: 76 years (as of 2023)

Russ Abbot, a name deeply etched in British comedy, has Chester running through his veins.

Born in the city, he spent his formative years absorbing the local culture, humour, and quirks.

His love for comedy was evident from his school days, where he often regaled classmates with his imitations of teachers.

Beyond his comedic genius, Russ is a keen golfer and enjoys exploring historical sites, with Chester's rich history serving as an initial spark for this interest.

Lee Latchford-Evans

Took the right Steps!

Born: in 1975 - Chester

English singer Lee Latchford-Evans is known as a member of the pop group Steps, has had fourteen straight top-five singles and has sold more than twenty million albums.

He studied at Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom and joined Steps in 1997.

Tom Hughes

Tom Hughes

Chester's Regal Thespian

Born: 18 April 1986 - Chester

Tom Hughes, best recognized for his portrayal of Prince Albert in 'Victoria', was molded by Chester's artistic backdrop.

With roots in the Chester Youth Theatre, Hughes's love for acting was evident from a tender age.

When he's not in front of the camera, Tom, a Chester native, is an avid musician and often spends time exploring Chester's music scene.

He's also expressed interest in local conservation efforts, attributing his love for nature to Chester's scenic beauty.

Michael Owen

Born: December 14, 1979, Chester

Michael Owen, once a superstar on the pitch, has settled down in Wales after hanging up his boots in 2013.

He's made his home in a swanky £4 million pad in North Wales that's been his since 2001, decked out with all the bells and whistles like a private cinema and a space just for gaming.

There's chatter that he's got a spot in Malpas, Cheshire, too.

When it comes to Chester Football Club, Michael's had more than a passing interest.

He was close to taking the leap into ownership, egged on by the electric vibe over at rival team Wrexham.

He's put his money where his heart is, too, leading the charge to pull Chester out of a financial rut by rallying for funds, and even laced up his boots for a charity match in 2018 to drum up some much-needed cash.

Buying a club's a big deal, though, and even Michael Owen knows it's a hefty investment that'd take more than just him to handle.

While he flirted with the idea, it seems like he's since stepped back to focus on other things. It's all in his book 'Reboot'
